Broward sheriffs search for two men seen attaching card skimmer at atm

Broward Sheriff's detectives are searching for two men captured on surveillance cameras installing a credit card skimming device on a Bank of America ATM in Cooper City. Officials think this may not be the pair's first time.
The surveillance video shows one man installing a credit card reading device on an ATM outside of the branch at 5504 S. Flamingo Road in Cooper City, while the other man acted as a lookout. The incident took place at about 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 1, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Both of the men were wearing dark blue T-shirts, dark baseball caps, and sunglasses. One of the men had a beard.
The bearded man stood nearby as the other man installed the device, then according to detectives, he appeared to verify that the skimmer was installed correctly.
In an earlier incident, the bearded suspect was captured on surveillance footage installing a device at the same bank on June 13 at about 9 a.m., investigators said. That skimmer was later identified by a customer because the taped-on device wasn't flush with the ATM, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
In the June incident, the ATM was shut down by bank officials and a technician was sent to the bank to investigate.
The surveillance images revealed that the bearded man was wearing the same clothes in the June and September incidents at the S. Flamingo Road branch.
SKIMMERS COPY PERSONAL INFORMATION
According to investigators, skimmers copy personal information, which is used to make duplicate cards and empty customers' bank accounts.
In an unrelated case involving skimmers, a J. Louis, 31, of Delray Beach, and his accomplice took nearly $28,000 from 25 people. The police believe there may be more victims.
Louis was arrested by Delray Beach police on Aug. 4.
In April, Adam Putnam, Florida's agricultural commissioner, said that skimmers were found at 81 locations during a statewide sweep of over 6,000 Florida gas stations.
State officials told the Sun Sentinel that 9 skimmers were found at Broward gas stations, 14 in Miami-Dade, and 8 in Palm Beach County.
