The authorities spent hours investigating the scene, and one neighbor reported that an officer was posted overnightOn Sunday night (Oct. 11), a man attempted to assault a 7-year-old girl inside a portable bathroom just steps away from the Miami Beach.

The incident allegedly occurred at a private gated community known as Altos de Mar, located at 79th Street and Collins Avenue. At this private and seemingly safe community, the homes back up to the beach.

According to neighbors, they saw police at the scene around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. One resident spoke to a security officer who told her that a man lured a young girl off the beach and into the portable bathroom. The victim was just 7-years-old.

The girl's father told the police that he was with his four children at the boardwalk on 79th Street when he noticed that his daughter was missing, according to a Miami Beach Police incident report.

As the father searched for his daughter, he saw her coming out of the bushes holding hands with a strange man. He yelled out to his daughter and the suspect took off running, the report said.

The girl told the police that the suspect held a knife to her and led her to a portable bathroom at the construction site.

M. Vasquez, a neighbor, told NBC Miami that he heard a security fella from the area say that they have security cameras and Vasquez guessed that they're in the process of looking to see what actually happened.

Other neighbors and tourists were in shock over the incident.

R. Gonzalez, another resident of the community said that it's sick and disgusting, and he would like parents to watch their kids. "They have to watch their kids," Gonzalez said.

M. Raynack, a tourist, told NBC Miami that he has a daughter with special needs. He said she'd be easy to take advantage of and it would upset him greatly. He would definitely want to find out who did it and see to it that justice was served.

The authorities spent hours investigating the scene, and one neighbor reported that an officer was posted overnight.

No description of the suspect has been released as of right now, but that will likely be forthcoming.
